When doing my Campsite Review for Dingwall Camping And Caravanning Club Site I felt it was a neat and tidy, well kept site, very pretty and well maintained but we didn't really feel welcome. There is a large stadium next door which might explain the code locks on the wash block and the glaring given to my 15-year-old son when we rang the bell at reception on arrival. Only 2 showers so we had to go back several times in the morning to find one free!
To be fair the folk there were clearly very proud of the site, as well as well-informed about the area but we were new to caravanning and felt very out-of-place. We were scared to put a foot wrong, had booked for 2 nights but only stayed for one....

I used to live in Dingwall and always thought the campsite looked nice and was well looked after so when I was planning my trip up to the Highlands I thought I'd stay there rather than putting my friends out. I was asked on arriving if I'd been before and I said that I had lived in Dingwall which got the response "well you're here now" :-S guess he meant had we stayed at the campsite before? Odd anyhow!
We are not members of the Caravan Club and hence had to pay an absolutely OUTRAGEOUS £74 (not divisable by three!) for three nights. We were too gobsmacked to complain and went reeling out of the shop! Twice we were woken at 9-9:30 by the sit on lawn mower and then were treated to the smell of gas and burning grass as the people who run the place treated the camper van bays to a good burning session.
I can say that the showers and toilets were clean (they were closed between 11 and 12:30 every day for cleaning) and the showers were almost the best we experienced on our trip. But the lack of genuine friendliness of the staff (when we booked in the lady who we had to bother seemed a bit put out) and the outrageous grass cutting every morning (would have been nice if they'd left that until the afternoon really) plus the utterly outlandish cost really put me off and I can safely say that I wouldn't stay there again. I'd just like to add that we paid £8 a night at Sligachan on Skye for EXACTLY the same facilities, and £13 a night at Sand in Gairloch for far superior facilities. I adore Dingwall and the local people and the best pub is in pretty good staggering distance of the campsite but I really wouldn't recommend the campsite to anyone but people with camper vans who have the extra buffer against the noise! Shame the next nearest place is Contin or Inverness really :-(
